of Nd: YAG laser and dentin binding agents in dentin hypersensitivity Dr. E. Yasini* - Dr. Gh. KarimiKahaki** *- Associate professor of Operative Dentistry Dept. Faculty of Dentistry - Tehran University of Medical Sciences. ** - Dentist. Background and aim: Dentin hypersensitivity is a chronic complaint among adult patients. The goal of this study was to compare the durability of the application of two techniques, Nd: YAG laser and dentin bonding agents, in the elimination of hypresensitivity. Materials and Methods: Twenty - eight patients with 116 hypersensitive teeth, who referred to the Operative Dentistry Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, were, enrolled in this clinical trial. The left lower and upper teeth received Nd: YAG laser treatment (0.3 w, .4 w, 0.5 w, 0.6 w, 0.7 w, 0.8 w, 0.9 and 1 w, each for 03 seconds). Then, dentin hypersensitivity was investigated applying forced air and in positive cases, laser treatment was repeated. The hypersensitive teeth, on the right side, were firstly etched with %37 phosphoric acid. For 5 seconds, washed with water and airdried. Then a single layer of excite adhesive was applied and after30-second airdrying, the teeth were light. cured for 20 seconds. In case of hypersensitivity, this technique was reapplied. In 3 and 6 months follow-ups, hypersensitivity was investigated and the data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney test. Results: In 6-month follow-up, the success rate of dentin bondings was %62.7 where as that of laser was.%42 showing a statistically significant difference (<0.05). Conclusion: Although both techinques lead to the reduction or total elimination of dentin sensitivity, dentin bonding agents exert a more durable effect. Key Words: Sensitive teeth - Nd: YAG laser - Dentin bonding agent.

Bonding to Er-YAG-laser-treated dentin.
Er-YAG laser irradiation has been claimed to improve the adhesive properties of dentin. We tested the hypothesis that dentin adhesion is affected by Er-YAG laser conditioning. Superficial or deep dentin from human molars was: (a) acid-etched with 35% H3PO4; (b) irradiated with an Er-YAG laser (KaVo) at 2 Hz and 180 mJ, with water-cooling; and (c) laser- and acid-etched. Single Bond (3M ESPE) an...

Introdouction: Dentinal hypersensitivity (DH) is one of the most painful chronic problems reported in dental offices. Various methods have been applied for the treatment of DH. However, majority of them are either ineffective or last for a short period of time. It has been reported that lasers, particularly Neodymium- doped: Yttrium Aluminum Garnet laser (Nd: YAG), can be helpful in the treatme...
متن کاملEffects of Nd: YAG laser irradiation on the adaptation of composite resins to root dentin.
One of the most important goals of the restoration of endodontically treated teeth with a composite resin post system is to achieve good adaptation of the composite material to dentin walls to prevent microleakage apically and coronally. In post core systems, to avoid microleakage between the dentin wall and resin material, laser irradiation may seem to be an alternative therapy for increasing ...
متن کاملXPS analysis of the dentin irradiated by Er: YAG laser.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Er:YAG laser irradiation on human dentin surface using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). 10 human dentin disks were prepared from extracted human molars for XPS analysis. These specimens were divided into two groups of five: a control group and group that were irradiated by an Er:YAG laser beam (100 mJ, 1Hz). All specimens were analyz...
متن کاملDentin Hypersensitivity and Its Treatments: A Literature Review
The aim of this review study is to increase information about dentin hypersensitivity, its etiology and treatments. For data collection we used PUBMED to find relevant articles. Then using the obtained articles and relevant text books, we attempted to sort this information according to etiology, prevalence and available treatment options.
